Joseph Leonel Coelho passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at age 76. Born in Half Moon Bay, California on March 27, 1936 to Joseph and Mary Coelho; Joe was raised in Lemoore, CA. He was a 1953 graduate of Lemoore High School. He served two years with the Army before going to work for Caldwell-Martin in 1961. Joe married Doris (Mendes) of Tulare that same year. Joe and Doris have one son Alan, born in 1965. In that same year, Joe began a 25 year career with the Kings County Sheriff Department retiring in the rank of Lieutenant in 1989. During his retirement he enjoyed golf, traveling, visiting his son and family in Spokane and spending time in Pismo Beach thus earning him the nickname, "Pismo Joe".
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Coelho; his in-laws, Carl and Edith Mendes and brother-in-law, Dean Maciel. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Doris Coelho; his son Alan, wife Renee and grandchildren Janie and Matthew of Spokane, WA; his sister Ludrie Maciel of Hanford and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Joe enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and all that life had to offer. He was quick to lend a helping hand, tell a story and always made people feel welcomed.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel, 420 W. D Street in Lemoore from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.; Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Peters Catholic Church, 870 N. Lemoore Ave. in Lemoore at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in Joe's memory be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church Building Fund or .
