Verna M. Haar, 89 was born in Fresno, California on July 17, 1924. She passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 13, 2013, in her home in Hanford, California.

She married her loving husband William on May 25, 1944. She worked at a shipyard in Richmond, CA while her husband served aboard ship in the Pacific during WWII. They moved to Delano, CA in 1950. They raised two daughters Jane and Kathy while William was employed as a foreman in grape ranching. Verna retired in 1985 as a housekeeper at Browning Nursing Home in Delano. She loved her job as well as visiting with the patients. She was preceded in death by her husband William and daughter Kathy before moving to Hanford in 1985 to be near her daughter Jane.
Verna was a lifelong Lutheran and a member of St. James Lutheran Church since 1985. She was loved by everyone she met including her church family and neighbors for her cheerfulness, kindness and love of others. She had a special love for all children she met. She always had a smile on her face and the spirit of the Lord in her heart. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Someday, we will all be together in God's loving arms.
She is survived by her daughter; Jane Johnstone and her husband Denver of Hanford, grandsons; William Presher and Alan Hurt, and several nieces and nephews. She also has a large extended family.
She will be buried at a later date and placed next to her loving husband at North Kern Cemetery in Delano, CA.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church; 1780 Emma Lee Lane, Hanford, CA 93230 559-584-8706 on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church in Verna's memory.
