HOLMES MILL — Elmarrir M. McQueen, 85, of Holmes Mill, passed away Friday, November 20, 2014, at her home. Born March 14, 1929 in Pathfork, she had lived in Holmes Mill most of her life. Elmarrir was a loving mother, homemaker, member of the Pentecostal Church of God at Holmes Mill and her faith was in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dave Middleton and Vina Lucresia Daniels Middleton; three sons, Albert Ray McQueen, Warren Edward McQueen and Bobby Franklin McQueen; four brothers, Dewey Gilbert Middleton, Levi Middleton, Houston Middleton and Henry Middleton; two sisters, Wyoming Reed and Leola Collins; a son-in-law, Mike Bennett and two grandchildren. Survivors include eight children, Lola Faye Labair and husband, Larry, Knoxville; Luster Paul McQueen and wife, Darlene, Big Stone Gap; Twila Gail Setla and companion, Clarence Haack, Waterford, MI; Lonnie Kermit McQueen and wife, Deanna, Belleville, MI; Devonnia McQueen Potter and husband, David, Lexington; Sheba McQueen Hensley and husband, Ed, Harlan; Nelda McQueen Cornett and husband, Buddy, Ages; and Karen June Bennett, Lejunior; and one sister, Malinda Elizabeth Huff, Closplint. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Sonya, Frank, Steven, Jacinda, Nathaniel, Jonathan, Jason, Michael, Michelle, Loniashley, Clint, Alonda, Jacob and Tessa; 15 great-grandchildren, Xander, Chase, Debra, Thomas, Annagail, Cara Jo, Andrew, Brylee, Baylee, Gavin, Wesley, Eli, Brittany, Gavin and Elliot; one great-great-grandchild, Carli; four step-grandchildren, Kristen, Stephanie, Thaddeus and Apryl; ten step-great-grandchildren, Conor, Daxton, Poet, Vann, Alexandra, Victoria, Catherine, Nya, Olivia and TQ; special niece and nephew, Nanny Sue Huff and Arlis Huff; and a host of many other special friends and family. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 until 8 PM at the Evarts Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at 1 PM at the Evarts Baptist Church with the Reverend Lucas Huff officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery, with grandsons and great-grandsons, Jason, Clint, Frank, Jonathan, Bryan, Jacob, Michael and Arlis serving as pallbearers. AGES — Johnny Wallace Smith, age 58, of Ages, KY passed away November 19 at Harlan ARH following a brief illness. He was a retired coal miner and believed in the Christian faith. He is preceded in death by his father, James William Smith, Sr., mother, Martha Smith Carr, and brother, Oscar Dewayne Smith. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Barbara Curry Smith of Ages, KY, son, John Kenneth Smith and wife, Chasity, of Ages; sisters, Ethel Smith, GA, Jessie Hensley of Pansy, KY, Claudia Smith of TN, Rosie Cox and husband, Andy, of Ages, KY, and Jennifer Jones of Evarts, KY; brothers, James William Smith, Jr. and wife, Roni of Dizney, KY; brothers in law, Ken Baird of Evarts, KY, James Curry and wife, Sheila, of Cumberland, KY, Bill Curry and wife, Ona, of Ages, KY, Glenn Curry of Harlan, KY; sisters in law, Louise Whitman of Evarts, KY, Joann May of MI, Wanda Valdez and husband, Ron, of Harlan and a host of special nieces and nephews including a very special great niece, Carmen Peto, and unborn grandchild, Kensleigh Smith. Visitation will be Friday, November 21 from 6 to 9PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral will be Saturday, November 22 at 12PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Frank Howard officiating. Burial will be at Evarts Memorial Gardens with Justin Baird, Donald Hensley, Jimmy Whitaker, Trevor Smith, Jonathan Curry, John Kenneth Smith, Josh Whitman, and Calvin Joe Turner. EVARTS — Eva Maria Vasquez, 45, of Evarts, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014, following a short illness. Born May 28, 1969 in Harlan County, she had lived here all of her life. Eva was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her step-father, Hugh Stewart; her grandparents, Wilson and Verda Dean; grandmother, Mary Pace; and two uncles, Charles and Willard Dean. Survivors include three children, Cindy Anglian and husband, Britt, Evarts; Jeffrey Scott Coker and fiancé, Chyna Caudill, Holmes Mill; and Sheena Coker, Evarts; her mother, Eva Dean Stewart, Evarts; a brother, Richard Pace, Evarts; her former husband and the father of her children, Jeffrey Coker, Verda; two grandchildren, Alyssa Coker, Holmes Mill; Braxton Anglian, Evarts; and two expected grandchildren. Also left to mourn are two special friends, Misty Pace and Bridgette Stallard; her aunts and uncles, Frances and Joe Gibbs, Disney; Roxie and Art Blevins, Evarts; Sudie Dean, Evarts; and Billy Dean, Evarts; nieces and nephews, Richard, Brent, Makayla, Chance and Richlynn Pace; cousins, Wanda and Keith Perkins; Verna Gibbs and fiancé, David Amburgey; Charlene Dean; Charles Dean; Anthony Gibbs; and Bonnie Dean; and her cat that she loved dearly, Dixie. Visitation will be held at the Evarts Funeral Home Tuesday, November 18, 2014, from 12 noon until 3 pm with funeral services following at 3 pm with the Reverend William Baker officiating. CRANKS — Betty Sue Thompson, 79 of Cranks departed this life for her heavenly home on November 14, 2014. She was born March 2, 1935 in Warren, KY to the late Joe S. and Elva Detherage. Mrs. Thompson was proprietor of Mary Alice Cash Store on Catrons Creek for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Mary Helen United Methodist Church and Cranks Creek United Methodist Church, and was a bold witness for Christ. She was preceded in death by her sister, Imogene Detherage, 3 brothers, G.B., Milford, and Lawrence Detherage, and infant daughter, Bobbie Sue Thompson. Survivors include her loving husband of 52 years, Robert (R.L.) Thompson; 3 children, Beverly Harris and husband Herbert of Dalton, GA, Patricia Duckett and husband Ronnie, Chatsworth, GA, and Johnny Knutson and wife Laurie of Romulus, MI; her sister, Phyllis Grizzle and husband Woodrow of Jonesville, VA; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive to mourn her passing. Visitation will be Monday (Nov. 17) from 6 until 8:00 pm in the chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home. Services to Celebrate her life will be 1:00 pm Tuesday (Nov. 18) at the Grays Knob Pentecostal Church with Bro. Leon Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery in Cranks, KY.
