MADISON COUNTY — Raymond Darrell Shepherd, 77, of Madison County, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, with his loving wife at his side, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born December 4, 1936, in Gordon, Kentucky, to Leonard and Maggie Helton Shepherd, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era where he served in the U. S. Army. He was an employee of the former A & P Company, before he retired from the U. S. Postal Service, after 28 years of service. He was of the Southern Baptist faith.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Margaret Christine Phipps Shepherd, of Richmond; one sister, Bernice Camacho of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers, Jim Shepherd (Linda) of Cumberland, KY and Leonard Shepherd, Jr. (Ann) of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews and was everyone's "favorite uncle".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Boggs and two brothers, Rudolph and Howard Shepherd.
Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. followed by services for Raymond 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home.
Burial will be at the Creech Cemetery at Cumberland, Kentucky, in Harlan County at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 , with Bro. Charles Shepherd officiating.
Pallbearers will be, Jimmy Ray Boggs, L. E. Boggs, Zack Boggs, Tyler Cederlund, Brenda DePalma, Luke Pecoraro, Jason Phipps, Richard Phipps, and Jimmy D. Shepherd. Honorary bearers will be Homer Crowe, Jonathan Ison, and Jamie Vaughn.
