KEOKEE, Va. — Rosa Myrtle Smith, 89, of Keokee, Virginia, formerly of Closplint went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Born December 9, 1924 in Harlan County, she had lived here most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jones Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Smith; her parents, Harvey Palmer and Lula Holland Palmer; three sons, Lonnie Smith, Jimmy Harold Smith and Ronald Smith; three sisters, Pearl Blair, Maggie Jackson and Opal Palmer; and one brother, Henry Sizemore.
Survivors include five sons, Stanley Smith and wife, Betty, Mt. Carmel, TN; Robert Smith and wife, Donna, Keokee, VA; Donald Smith and wife, Barbara, Beaver Dam, KY; John Howard Smith and wife, Kimberly, Pound, VA; and Jimmy Harold Smith, Jr., Keokee, VA. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 until 10 pm and Saturday from 9 am until the funeral hour at the Cloverfork Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 1 pm at the Church with the Reverend Bud Culbertson and the Reverend Mike Blair officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
