GULSTON — Shirley Katherine Smith Hicks, 66 of Gulston, KY went to be with the lord on January 10, 2014 following a long illness. She was the owner and operator of Baxter Automotive for 20 years. She was a member of Liggett Baptist church for many years. She was a volunteer at Hospice and of the Lady's auxiliary gift shop at Harlan ARH.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hicks, Father, Bascom Smith, Mother, Margaret Bryant Smith, and sister, Wilma Sue Parsons.
She is survived by her son Joey (Elizabeth) Hubbs, Harlan, KY and daughter, Margaret (Matt) Stults of Winchester, KY, granddaughter Megan Stults, Winchester, KY, sister, Margie (Louie) Vaughn of Ashland, KY, and Brother Roger (Freda) Moore of Michigan, and special friend Beth Tompkins. She also leaves nieces and nephews and other relatives to mourn her death.
Visitation will be Monday January 13, 2014 from 5 until 7:00 pm at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Howard officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Raymond Smith.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Resthaven Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet just prior to the service at the cemetery chapel.
The family request memorials be sent to Hospice of the Bluegrass, Mountain Heritage, PO Box 189, Harlan, KY 40831 in memory of Mrs. Hicks.
