WALLINS — Della Mae Haywood, 78, of Wallins, departed this life on Thursday, April 17, 2014 following an illness. She was born at Wallins Creek on April 27, 1935, one of thirteen children to the late Moss Hensley and the late Rinda Hopkins Hensley. As a young adult, Della resided in Covington, KY for 20 years, and then returned to her home here in Harlan County. She enjoyed attended various churches.

Most people knew her for her singing and guitar playing, as well as her ability to quilt. She had a great love for music, and she has passed this down to her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Della is preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Jay Hensley.

Survivors include a daughter, Alicia Donahue, of Wallins; two sons, Kevin Haywood, of Tremont; and Allen Haywood and wife Peggy, of Baxter; six grandchildren, Cassie Crawford and husband Matt; Seth Haywood, Joshua Haywood, Sarah Haywood, Anthony Donahue and Nathan Donahue.

Also surviving are five sisters, Irene Meeks and husband Charles, Melbourne, FL; Ann Vandeursen and husband Sam, South Holland, MI; Margaret Puleo and husband Denny, Batavia, NY; Betty Jean Parker and husband Bob, Louisville, KY; Geraldine Honeycutt, London, KY; five brothers, Cecil Hensley, Somerset, KY; Wendell "Tubby" Hensley and wife Retta, Wallins; Arlis Hensley and wife Mitt, Wallins; Chuck Hensley and wife Birdie, Wallins; Gene Hensley and wife Pam, Dayton, OH; sister-in-law, Betty Hensley, of Wallins; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family of Della Haywood will welcome visitors on Wednesday, April 23, from 6 until 8 pm at the Harlan Funeral Home.

The funeral services will follow at 8 pm in the Harlan Funeral Home chapel with the Reverend Freeman Clark officiating. Her grandson, Josh Haywood, will also be speaking.

Interment services will take place at 11 am Thursday, April 24, at the Park Howard Cemetery at Wallins. Those wishing to attend can meet at Harlan Funeral Home at 10:30 am to proceed to the cemetery.
