TREMONT — Elverta "Pat" Lahnstein, 89, of Tremont, passed from this life on Monday, December 9, 2013 following an illness. She was born January 12, 1924 in Pineville, KY to the late Howard Smith and Ida Walker Smith. Pat work for several years at the former Ackley's Café in Harlan prior to relocating to Pennsylvania with her late husband, Joseph Lahnstein. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Loyall.
In addition to her parents and husband, Pat is preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Shackleford; and her sister and brother-in-law, Maxia and Wendell Griffith.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Bill Shackleford, Tremont; three grandsons, Bill Joe of Lexington; Lance and Dustin, both of Wallins; a great-grandson, Tyler, whom she loved very much; two nieces, Susan Howard and Gwen Morris, and their families; as well as her caregivers, Charity and Matt Saylor.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 13, from 5 - 7 pm at Harlan Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm with the Reverend David Overbay officiating.
Burial will take place Saturday morning at 10 am at Resthaven Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery chapel just prior to 10 am.
