COXTON — Frances Skidmore Adkins, 88, of Coxton went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at her home. Born June 10, 1925, she was a lifelong resident of Harlan County. She was a former nurse's aide for Dr. Smith Howard at the old Harlan Hospital. Frances believed in the Church of God faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Gene Adkins; her parents, Green Skidmore and Mary Deaton Skidmore; a daughter, Lindalene Adkins King; a brother, Kenneth Skidmore; and two sisters, Jeanne Skidmore Monday and Shirley Skidmore.
Survivors include six children, Randy B. Adkins and wife, Aileen, Eastbrook; Marsha Monroe and husband, Frank, Eastbrook; Carolyn Skidmore, Brookside; Judy Bledsoe, Coxton; Iva Adkins and fiance, Steve Vosk, Harlan; Mary Adkins, Cincinnati; two sisters, Camelene West, London, KY; Edith Ferrara, Monroe, MI; and five brothers, Donnie Skidmore, Ages; Elmer Skidmore, Monroe, MI; Troy Skidmore and wife, Rachael, Pleasant Shade, TN; Randall Skidmore and wife, Vickie, Columbus, OH; and Howard Wayne Skidmore and wife, Lisa, Totz. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 1 pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Stan Nicely officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
