John E. Goforth, Sr., 68 of Watts Creek passed away peacefully & unexpectedly in his sleep Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at his residence. Born February 14, 1945 in Harlan County, he was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed as a machinist by trade for most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Goforth and Bessie Keith Goforth; five brothers, Lonnie, Don, Gerald, Henry L. and Denver Goforth; three sisters, Geraldine Goforth, Eva Lawson and Edna Furlong.
John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lois Baumgardner Goforth, Watts Creek; one son, John E. Goforth Jr. and Fiancé Missy Ball, Harlan; two daughters, Sheryl Bentley and husband Jody, Wise, VA and Regina Hall and husband Gary, Loyall; five grandchildren, Anthony Foster, Gabe Goforth, Zach Daniels, Alex and Nick Bentley.
He is also survived by two sisters, Beatrice Hensley, Watts Creek and Sharon Trapp and husband Tom, Watts Creek.
Per John's wishes prior to his death he has chosen to be cremated. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
