HARLAN — I left my earthly home on Sunday, April 13, 2014 to join my much loved husband, Hiram, in God's realm. How wonderful to see my long gone parents, James H. and Octavia Brown Nunnery. What a joy to be reunited with my sisters, Minta Burke, Pauline Yantis, and Nell Shepherd. In a rush I will find Hiram's parents, Hiram and Ona Lewis Brock. What happiness we will share.
In teaching first grade for forty years, so many of those little ones have already gone, but I leave many who are now adults and still my friends.
Do not weep because I am gone. Weep instead for those who have not shared a life of love with a wonderful mate. Weep for those who do not think we await them on the other side.
How I miss my precious family: Son, Jeff, his wife, Michelle, and their two beloved children, Jeffrey and Meg. My son, Hiram, "Hi" and his son, Ethan.
How I long to see those I love so much, but I must wait for a glorious reunion. I will be waiting and watching for you.
My life on earth was a happy one. After growing up in Prestonsburg, I was fortunate to marry Hiram in 1939. We graduated from U.K. in 1942 and came to Harlan that year. Hiram's hope for a law practice was dashed by W.W. II. After volunteering for the Navy, he served in the Pacific theatre. I stayed with his precious parents and began teaching school. I remember as plainly as yesterday the day of his homecoming.
Both Hiram and I loved our nieces and nephews and believe they will keep the sweet family interaction we treasured. I leave thanks to everyone who was so good to me. Now I am in God's care.
You know how I loved flowers, but in lieu of them I suggest that any memorials for me be given to: Harlan Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box, Harlan, Kentucky 40831; Living Water's Mission, 9702 Highway 221, Pine Mountain, Kentucky 40810; The Program for Functionally Mentally Disabled Cumberland Elementary School, Golf Course Road, Cumberland, Kentucky 40823.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Henson and Rich Funeral Home in charge.
Look up. I'll be looking down.
