CLOSPLINT — Wilma Peace Short, 80, of Closplint went home to be with the Lord Monday, April 14, 2014. Born June 21, 1933 in Harlan County, she had lived here all of her life. Wilma retired as a cook and an aide at the Holmes Mill Elementary School. She was a faithful member of the Huff Settlement Baptist Church. A very loving person, she especially loved her church and her family.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Milford Short; her parents, George Peace and Lucy Wynn Peace; her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ronnie Short; and a grandson, Michael Short.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Perkins Short, Cawood; two grandchildren, Ashley Perkins Hurst and husband, William, Bean Station, TN; Mitchell Short, Closplint; and five great-grandchildren, Darby Hurst, Michaela Short, Blade Short, Allie Caudill and China Caudill.
Also surviving are three sisters, Bernice Smith, Putney; Shirley Morgan and husband, Jack, Cincinnati; Imogene Tolliver, Pineville; four brothers, George Peace, Jr., Barbourville; Jay Peace and wife, Bobbie; James Peace and wife, Earlene; Morris "Bud" Peace and wife, Donna, all of Closplint; and a host of other family and friends, including special friends, Doris Bush and Alphene Anderson, both of Closplint.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 12 noon in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Scotty Witt officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
