MONTPELIER – Jesse L. Rogers, 82, of Warren and formerly of the Southern Wells community, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Banner Baywood Medical Center, Mesa, Ariz.
He was born on Friday, August 28, 1931, in Blackford County.
Jesse married Kathryn Janet Waltz on Sunday, February 28, 1954, in Zion Lutheran Church, Hartford City.
He was a longtime Wells County and Blackford County dairy farmer before moving to Warren.
Jesse graduated in 1949 from Montpelier High School and had attended Purdue University
, West Lafayette.
He had been a Wells County Commissioner for four years, served as Wells County Farm Bureau president as well as on Wells County Health Board and Wells County Zoning Board and was a member of Gideon's and the Zion Lutheran Church, Hartford City.
Jesse had honorably served in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Division.
He and his wife had wintered in Mesa, Ariz., since 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Janet (Waltz) Rogers, of Warren; four daughters, Karen Sue (husband, Guy) Studebaker, of Rossville, Louise Annette (husband, Gregory) Reynolds, of Monroe, Loretta Kay McCormick, of Kokomo, and Marlene Jo (husband, Jay) Redding, of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Oscar Rogers, mother, Opal Ethel (Schwarzkopf) Rogers, and two brothers, David Paul Rogers and Merle Lloyd Rogers.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier, on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. There also will be viewing at Zion Lutheran Church, 308 S. Monroe St., Hartford City, on Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
A service to celebrate Jesse's life will be at Zion Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, with the Rev. David Fleener officiating. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F, Cemetery, Montpelier. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Army.
