HARTFORD CITY – Michael D. Jones, 66, of Hartford City, died at 9:55 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Bridgewater Rehabilitation Centre, Hartford City.
He was born on October 23, 1946, in Hartford City to Charles D. Jones and Kathaleen (Monroe) Jones. His father preceded him in death.
Michael graduated from Hartford City High School in 1964. He attended Ball State University, Muncie, for one year. He served in the United States Marine Corps
from March 17, 1966, to March 15, 1968, and he served under the USMC 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine, Golf Company. He received the following honors while serving in the United States Marine Corps, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal Color with Palm), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart
Medal and Sharpshooter Rifle Badge.
He had attended the Nazarene Church in his younger years. He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS and a member of Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He retired from GM Guide, Anderson.
Michael was a man who was loving and caring to family and friends and would go out of his way for either one. He was an avid sports fan, where he cheered for his favorites, the New York Yankees baseball team, Indiana University
basketball team, the Indiana Pacers basketball team and the Indianapolis Colts football team. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and shooting sports.
He will be sadly missed by his mother, Kathaleen Jones, of Hartford City; sons, Scott A. Jones, of Hartford City, and Ryan M. (wife, Kandace M.) Jones, of La Porte; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, his daughter, infant Angelia R. Jones, brothers, Gary G. Jones and William Jones, sister, Dianna Lynn Jones, and infant twin brother and sister, Charles Allen Jones and Cheryl Ann Jones.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City, with the Rev. Gary Hall of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Keplinger Funeral Home.
Burial will take place at Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery at a later date to be announced.
