HARTFORD CITY – Melvin A. Rogers, 83, of Hartford City, passed away on Thursday morning, Feb. 27, 2014, at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.

He was born on November 23, 1930, in Blackford County the son of Melvin C. and Rosa Barbara (Lisenfelt) Rogers.
Mr. Rogers attended Montpelier High School.
He served in the United States Army in occupied Germany after World War II.
Mr. Rogers was a local farmer and then became a millwright with Willman Lumber Company, Hartford City.
He was an active member of IGEI (Iris Growers of Eastern Indiana) and was known statewide for his beautiful iris beds.
Surviving are his wife Betty Thomas Rogers; two daughters, Lisa (husband, Kent) Garinger, of Muncie, and Melanie Rogers, of Mobile, Ala.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Norma Rogers, two brothers, Virgil Rogers and Clifford Rogers, and his sister, Mabel McDonald.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Road 3, Muncie, with Pastor Rory Bond officiating.
The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, 415 E. Washington St., Muncie, is in charge of arrangements.
