HARTFORD CITY – Paul Lewis Martz, 90, of Hartford City, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at his residence in Hartford City.

He was born in Montpelier on May 21, 1923, to the late Jesse Martz Sr. and the late Cora Marie (Moore) Martz.

On April 25, 1942, Paul married Lucy Pearl Martz. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1993. He then married Wilma Lucille (Johnson) Weschke-Martz on February 14, 1996, in Tennessee. She survives him.

He has been a lifelong resident of Blackford County and retired from 3M Company in 1985 after 30 years of employment. After retirement, Paul enjoyed working with Rex Shadle Auctioneering, Hall & Lips Auction Services and Bud Michaels Auctioneering in his younger years.

He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. While in the United States Army he received the Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars and The Purple Heart Medal.

Paul was an avid antique collector and attended Zion Lutheran Church, Hartford City.

Paul will be sadly missed by his wife, Wilma L. Weschke-Martz; children, Michael R. (wife, Marilyn) Martz, Berne, Jane A. (husband, Jerry) Gaither, of Gaston, Jana Clevenger, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Sheila (husband, Sean) Duffy, of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Stephen (wife, Cathy) Weschke, of Hartford City; one sister, Helen Seavers, of Upland; one brother, Howard (wife, Phyllis) Martz, of Fairmount; grandchildren, Mitch Martz, Mindy (husband, Keith) Rodarmel, Melisa (husband, Gary) Dilly, Matthew (wife, Sarah) Gaither, Stacy Mathys, Matthew (wife, April) Mathys, Stacy Clevenger, Darcy (husband, Nate) Biddle, Teresa (husband, David) Buechel, Angela (husband, Jeremy) Thornburg, Wendy (husband, Chad) Sullivan and Travis (wife, Missy) Weschke; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lucy Martz, two sisters, Elizabeth Gutshall and Ruth Bailey, and one brother, Jesse Martz Jr.

Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City with the Rev. David Fleener officiating. Interment will follow at Jefferson Cemetery, Upland.
