HARTFORD CITY – Russell Herb-ert Sutton Sr., 88, of Hartford City, died at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Reflections Memory Care, Kokomo.

He was born in Hartford City on May 31, 1924, to the late Fred C. Sutton Sr. and the late Emma C. (Luzadder) Sutton.
Russell graduated from Hartford City High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1945. He was a POW during World War II. He received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medal.
He married Violet Lucille (May) Sutton on October 6, 1950, at First Christian Church, Hartford City. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2008.
Russell was a member of First Christian Church, Hartford City. He was also a member of AMVETS Post #23, Hartford City, and American Legion Moyer-Pooler Post #159, Hartford City.
He retired from the United States Post Office and was a part-time plasterer.
Russell was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling. He was also an avid Blackford sports fan and he used to camp, enjoyed outdoors and gardening.
He will be sadly missed by his sons, Russell H. Sutton Jr., of Hartford City, and William L. "Bill" (wife, Mary Kay) Sutton, of Aurora, Ill.; daughter, Linda S. (husband, Cassius D.) Mansfield, of Russiaville; grandchildren, Joy E. Mansfield, Michael J. (wife, Desi) Mansfield, Christina Hope (husband, Brett) Lashlee, David J. Mansfield, Charity A. Mansfield, Clarice K. Sutton, Caroline J. Sutton and Melody V. Sutton; great-grandchildren, Madison M. Mansfield, Logan J. Hart, Hadlee Mansfield and Ayla Lashlee; sister, Tillie Maurer, of Montpelier; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sisters, Rowena Elizabeth Wade, Hazel Cale and Opal Wade, brothers, Ernest Sutton, Harry Sutton, Francis Sutton and Fred C. Sutton Jr.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City, with Rev. Keith Kincaid of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hartford City Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Dunkirk American Legion Post.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Keplinger Funeral Home.
