ANDERSON – Wayne Eldon Con-fer, 68, of Anderson, left this earth after a long and courageous fight with cancer on Friday, April 12, 2013.

He was born on February 25, 1945, in Hartford City to Floyd and Gladys Confer. He spent much of his youth helping with the family farm and graduated from Hartford City High School in 1963. He later retired from General Motors.
He volunteered his time with the Chesterfield Optimist Club and Indian Guides. He had a deep rooted love for the Lord. He was a very active member of the Anderson Church of the Brethren.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Mary. He also has four children, Elizabeth (Kim Mead) Confer, of Anderson, Graham (JaNell) Confer, of Anderson, Nelly (Steve) DeBord, of Anderson, and Matthew Gullion, of New Castle; three grandchildren, Olivia Davidson, Eden Gullion and Kiley Thornton.
Other survivors include his brother, Alvin (Paula) Confer; his mother-in-law, Eva Lopez; his two dearest friends, JoAnn Osborn and Darwin McNorton.
The family would like to thank IU Simon Cancer Center and Hancock Regional Hospital for the wonderful care given to Wayne and his family.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, with Ed Jackson, John Wrightsman and Larry Abshire officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
