HARTFORD CITY – Vera "Eileen" Shaffer, 89, of Hartford City, got her wish finally on Saturday Aug. 2, 2014, when her Savior called and invited her to be with Him in Paradise.

She was born in Blackford County on October 18, 1924, to John A. and Hazel B. (Willman) Streib. Both parents preceded her in death.
Eileen became a child of God through Holy Baptism on February 8, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hartford City.
She graduated from Hartford City High School in 1942.
Eileen was employed for 28 years at St. Joe Paper Company, Hartford City, in various departments in the office.
On August 12, 1972, Eileen married Earl Shaffer. On October 3, 1972, less than two months later, Earl became very ill while in Muncie and suffered a fatal heart attack.
Eileen will be sadly missed by her brother-in-law, Max Clark, of North Huntingdon, Pa.; nieces and nephews, Sandy (husband, P.G.) Brown, Sharon Houston, Angela (husband, Art) Mattson, Cindy (husband, Larry) Mouri, Ron (wife, Lynn) Clark, Gary (wife, Marjorie) Clark, Greg Siedlecki and Mark (wife, Sharon) Siedlecki; step son, Don Shaffer, of Hartford City; step daughter, Judy (husband, Frank) Bell, of Auburn; step daughter-in-law, Terry A. Shaffer, of Hartford City; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, June Clark and Forest Siedlecki, and step son, Jerry Shaffer.
Eileen received great joy by attending church services and Bible Class at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) of which she was a Charter Member. She always thought of her church family as a great blessing. The kindness of her step son, friends and neighbors enabled her to live in her own apartment for many years.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City, with Pastor Daniel Mackey officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Montpelier.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Keplinger Funeral Home.
