HARTFORD CITY – Errol Hayden Washburn "Wash", 72, died unexpectedly at 6:06 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010 at his residence.

He was born on May 17, 1938 in Indianapolis to the late John Hayden Washburn and the late Sara K. (Bartlett) Washburn.
Errol graduated from Albany High School in 1956. He graduated from Ball State Teachers College in 1960 and also received his master's degree from Ball State Teachers College. He was a member of the United States National Guard and played on the National Guard basketball team as a guard, winning the State Championships for five years.
He married Judy K. (Pickens) Washburn on January 12, 1985 at their home in Blackford County.
Errol loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.
He retired from Blackford Community Schools after 40 years of service as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Blackford High School. He loved teaching and enjoyed the kids. He was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association.
Errol will be sadly missed by his wife Judy K. Washburn of Hartford City; sons, Kem A. Washburn of Hartford City, Robert K. (wife, Christie) Armfield of Carmel and Vance W. (wife, Candice) Washburn of Hartland, Wisc.; daughter, Lea A. (husband, Charles) Alvernaz of Lizton, Ind.; grandchildren, Shannon Washburn, Collin Alvernaz, Macy Armfield, Joseph Armfield, Savannah Washburn, Abbigayle Washburn, Maggie Rose Washburn; sister, Janice K. (husband, Donald) Garringer of Albany; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, and from 9 - 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Keplinger Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Davis officiating.
Interment will follow at Black Cemetery in Albany.
