WELLS COUNTY – Paul Irvin Bonham, 84, of Liberty Township, Wells County, passed away at 2:25 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013, at Luth-eran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born on Sunday, October 21, 1928, in Huntington.
Paul graduated from Warren High School Class of 1946. He then attended Purdue University School of Agriculture graduating in 1950.
Paul enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 serving as an executive officer, along with his twin brother, Richard, for three years in the Korean Conflict where he earned the Bronze Star.
Paul married Nancy Howard in Hammond on February 20, 1955.
Paul farmed for 35 years. He was part of the 4-H Association in the 1960's and was an agriculture banker in the 1970's.
Paul's service career in Wells County Government was varied and extensive. Paul served on the Board of Zoning Appeals from 1969 to 1988, as township trustee from 1988 to 1990, as county auditor from 1990 to 1998, and spent three months as member of Wells County Council. Paul served as County Commissioner from 2000 to 2012 and held the position of President of the Northeast District of County Commissioners and served on the IACC's board.
Paul was a member of the Wells County Mental Health Association, the Bluffton Optimist Club and the Wells County GOP.
Paul was a dedicated family man. He enjoyed Civil war history and loved to play golf.
Paul was a knowledgeable, dependable and honest leader working for continued representative government.
Paul was a lifelong member of Warren Church of Christ, where he served as Sunday School teacher and deacon.
Paul always believed "When you grow up in an area and your kids do, too, you want to be part of it . . . you serve."
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Howard) Bon-ham, of Markle; two daughters, Vivian (husband, John) Bonham Blakeslee, of Milford, and Lauren (husband, Randy) Bonham Lockdall, of Bloomington; one son, William "Bill" H. (wife, Lori) Bonham, of Liberty Center; twin brother, Richard R. (wife, Cynthia) Bonham, of Warren; one sister, Carolyn (husband, George) Bonham Grigsby, of Neenah, Wisc.; two granddaughters, Julie Blakeslee Oertel and Abbey Blakeslee Fouse; four grandsons, Seth Blakeslee, Luke Blakeslee, Matthew Lockdall and Andrew Lockdall; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elijah R. "E.R." Bonham, his mother, Hattie I. (Schilling) Bonham, and one daughter, Julie Anne Bonham, who passed away in 1966.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Warren Church of Christ, 302 N. Wayne St., Warren on Monday, May 6, 2013, from 1 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
A service to celebrate Paul's life will be at Warren Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, with Pastor Ethan Stivers and the Rev. Gerald Moreland officiating. Interment will follow in Thompson Home Cemetery, rural Warren.
