HARTFORD CITY – Delbert "Del" D. Carroll, 84, of Hartford City, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013, in Miller's Merry Manor, Hartford City.

Del was born on April 19, 1929, in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Leo M. and Lottie (Campbell) Carroll.
He was raised in Clarinda, Iowa, and graduated from College Springs (Iowa) High School and later from Clarinda Jr. College.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Del worked as a salesman at Quality Mills, Lauer's Clothing Store, Plymouth.
He moved to Hartford City in 1954 and worked at Stein's Men's Wear. He also was an EMT for 10 years and Blackford County Assessor for over 12 years, retiring in 1988.
Del was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #1639, Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #159, AMVETS Post #23 and Blackford Country Club.
Surviving are a brother, Robert (Juanita) Carroll, of College Springs, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Carroll.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, with Father Robert Williams officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Iowa.
Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
