BATTISTON, Helen Josephine
Helen Josephine Battiston, of Farmington and Tequesta, FL passed away on December 23, 2012 at the Uconn Medical Center at the age of 96. She is predeceased by her husband Lino J. Battiston, a son Edward Battiston, sisters Mary Pellagato, Millicent Root Chianese, Mary Mincarelli, and brothers, Mario and Paul Mincarelli. Helen is survived by two sons Deacon Donald Battiston of Nantucket Island and Jupiter, FL and Leonard Battiston of Stonington and Jupiter, FL. She is lovingly remembered as Grandma by nine grandchildren, Jeffrey Battiston, Rebecca King, Hannah Martin, Greg Battiston, Jacob Battiston, Christina Battiston, Leigh Kroll, Todd Kroll and Scott Kroll and as "Grandma Hellie" by 15 great-grandchildren. Helen lived life to the fullest; she was our eternal optimist. She was a communicant at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Farmington and St. Peter in Jupiter, FL. Over the years, Helen was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and St. Brigid's Women's Auxilary in West Hartford. Helen, an avid golfer, competed in many CSWGA tournaments and was a Women's Club Champion at Avon Country Club. She continued to play golf until the age of 93 as a member of the Country Club of Farmington and Tequesta Country Club.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday June 1 at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Patrick, 110 Main St., Farmington followed by burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Avon. There will be no calling hours. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the residents and staff of The Gables in Farmington, CT where Helen lived a happy, active and full life until her death and also to the doctors and nurses at the Jean Marie Colbert Wing at UConn Medical Center for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to any charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc., www.ahernfuneralhome.com.
