Johanna B. Conant

1940 - 2017

Johanna Bronis (Babiarz) Conant, of Windsor Locks, died peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2017, after resisting cancer for more than a decade. Born July, 12, 1940, to the late John and Louise (Pikul) Babiarz, Johanna was raised in Windsor Locks, and later returned to reside in the home of her youth after living most of her adult life in Vernon. Johanna graduated from Bates College, Lewiston, ME, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She received a Master of Arts from Trinity College, Hartford, CT and a Master of Research from Andover Newton Theological School, Newton Centre, MA. During her lifetime, Johanna taught secondary school English, evening ESL and GED classes, and as a part-time instructor, taught expository writing at Manchester Community College and technical writing at the University of Hartford. She was also an independent contract technical writer for several Hartford-area businesses. Johanna loved to read and share poetry, cook, bake pies, sew, and quilt. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Conant and Francis Lombard of Coventry, her son David H. Conant III, and Lori of Ashford, CT, and her brothers John P. Babiarz of Mesa, AZ, and Alec J. Babiarz of Encinitas, CA. Her sister Gloria L. Babiarz predeceased her. Johanna had four grandchildren, Hannah and Jacob Conde, Mikayla and Grace Conant; a nephew and niece, Alec Paul and Kristina Babiarz, and many beloved cousins and friends. Her family thanks the doctors and nurses for the care she received at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and the JMH Cancer Infusion Center in Enfield. Burial and a Memorial Service celebrating Johanna's life will be announced at a later date.
