AHLERS, William Henry
William Henry Ahlers, born May 11, 1926 in Bronx, NY passed peacefully early Sunday morning, (October 27, 2013) at the Avon Nursing home in Avon Connecticut. He provided a lifetime of love and support to his family and friends, before retiring to North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains for 12 happy years, where he and his wife busied themselves making and painting wooden toys for children. He later returned to the Hartford area after his wife suffered a paralytic stroke to care for her among family and friends. He was the eldest son of William Robert and Anna Peemoller Ahlers. He is survived by his siblings; brother, Winston and Peggy Ahlers of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; sister, Adrien and Gary Crandall of Riverview, FL, and brother Jerome and Gloria Ahlers, as well as his wife Florence Imbaratto Ahlers and four children; daughter, Marilyn and Tom McInnis of Dunnellon, FL; son, William and Alane Ahlers of New Hartford, CT; son, Michael and Susan Ahlers of West Hartford, CT and daughter, Denise and Kip White of Fairfax, VA. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with two more soon on the way. He served in the United States Navy as a Corpsman from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He was most proud of his service to his country and the loved of his family. As a remembrance, expressions of sympathy can best be expressed in kind acts and loving deeds to family, love ones, friends and strangers from now until forever.

If the life contributions of an individual include the mate they choose and the family they raise, then indeed, the legacy of William H. Ahlers is to be admired, for his is a remarkable family.
