MCKENNEY, Elijah Jr.
Elijah McKenney, Jr., 73 of Bloomfield, departed this life on Saturday, (October 27, 2012) after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Clayton) McKenney who passed away on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012. He was born in Albany, Georgia on May 16, 1939. He was the son of the late Elijah McKenney, Sr. and Jenney (Givens) McKenney. He retired from the city of Hartford after over 30 years as Assistant Superintendent of Waste Collection - Dept of Public Works. He also was a member of the doo wop band The Five Bel-Aires and a member of "Legacy" Show and dance band. Elijah leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Rev. Walter McKenney (Ida) of West Hartford; sisters, Fannie Love of Bloomfield and Eunice McKenney of Hartford; brother in-law, Louis Clayton (Dorothy) of Windsor Locks; sisters-in law, Marion Hall (Vernon) of Bloomfield, Diane Hodges of East Hartford, Linda Johnson of Hartford, Janice Postell of Rocky Hill and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elijah was a faithful member of Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church, Bloomfield. The family would like to extend thanks to Kindred Nursing Home in Windsor and Wintonbury Care Center in Bloomfield (Amy, RN and Nancy, SW).
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 10 -11 a.m. at Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church, Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carmon Windsor Funeral Home. To leave on-line condolences please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
