Carlos Julio Betancourt, 80, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 19, 2014. He was born on January 26, 1933, in Pereira, Colombia, to the late Abel and Clarissa (Velazquez) Betancourt. A veteran of the Korean War, Carlos served in the 47th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army as a liaison between the US and Colombian Armies; as a result of his service he earned US citizenship. He owned and operated Silhouette of Beauty hair salon in Hartford for twenty years. After retiring from hairdressing, he went into business with his son, Gregg; together, they established a legal research firm, The Docket Clerk, LLC. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, painting, dancing, and playing piano and the drums. He also was an excellent soccer player and played on teams in Colombia and in Connecticut. Carlos will be remembered most, however, for his willingness to always lend a helping hand to his family and friends. Carlos is survived by his loving partner of many years, Carmela Migliore of Rocky Hill. Carlos is also survived by his former wife, Lucy (Ann) Betancourt, of Rocky Hill; daughter Linda Betancourt of Rocky Hill; granddaughter Dr. Marci Carrasquillo and her husband Dr. Andrew Flannery, of Washington, D.C.; son Gregg Betancourt and grandson Jordan, of Simsbury, son Mark Betancourt, his wife Karen, and grandchildren Joseph, Sarah, and Olivia, all of Avon. He also leaves his brother Gustavo Betancourt, of Hartford, his sisters Consuelo Lebron-Bermudez, of Hartford, and Amparo (Judy) Vazquez, of Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews.
