Rose LAVIT Obituary

LAVIT, Rose
Rose Lavit, widow of the late L. Herman Lavit of Bridgeport died on Monday morning (November 19, 2012) at the Hospital of Hebrew Health Care, in West Hartford. Born on October 28, 1919 to Frank and Mary (Singer) Kessler, she grew up at 409 Spruce Street in Bridgeport's old West End. One of five siblings, she was a loyal sister and devoted daughter. As a child, she attended the Longfellow public school, and graduated Bassick High, where she developed a lifelong appreciation of dialect poetry and English literature, particularly Shakespeare. She was also an accomplished amateur actress. She imparted these interests to her three children: Rabbi Gary Lavit of Bloomfield, Susan Rosenberg of Bridgeport, and Karen Moss of Oyster Bay, Long Island. Rose was married to L. Herman Lavit from June 21, 1942 until Herman's death in 1998. Together, they made a home in which guests were always welcomed at their table. Rose and Herman taught their children to appreciate, respect, and befriend all persons, across the full spectrum of racial, religious, and cultural diversity. Besides her children, Rose is survived by her youngest sibling Edward, and by five grandchildren: Sam, David, Fred, and Mimi Michaels, and Max Rosenberg, and other relatives and friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the superlative clinical care and genuine loving-kindness given in abundance by the earthly angels who are the staff at Hebrew Health Care.
Contributions may be given to the Hebrew Home & Hospital, 1 Abrahms Boulevard, West Hartford, CT 06117, or to any benevolent cause. Burial services will take place at Agudas Achim Cemetery, 250 Reid Street, Fairfield, at 1:30 p.m. TODAY, Tuesday. FULL SHIVA will be observed by Rabbi Lavit, at the Hebrew Home & Hospital from Tuesday afternoon following return from the funeral, until the following Monday morning. He will receive visitors between the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., except Friday and Saturday afternoons. Rabbi Lavit will attend services at Young Israel of West Hartford. Arrangements are entrusted to Leonard Holtz of Hebrew Funeral Association, West Hartford.
