MESSENGER, Alan
Alan Messenger, 55, of Newington, lost his short battle with cancer on Saturday (April 6, 2013) surrounded by the loving embrace of his family. Born in Newington, son of Bruce and the late Ellen Messenger, he leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Connie Messenger, his father and stepmother Bruce and Sharon Messenger of Plainville; three children: Daniel Messenger and daughter-in-law Cindy Netupski of Hutto, TX, Derick Messenger of Orlando. FL, Amanda (Messenger) Dark and son-in-law Nino Dark of Newington; four grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan, Gloria and Clinton; four sisters Debbie Breault and brother-in-law Bill Breault of Newington, Cheryl Kelly of Rocky Hill, Terry Messenger, Robin Lockery and brother in law/ best friend Keith Lockery all of Newington. He has spent almost his whole life as a Newington resident and raised his three children in the same neighborhood he grew up in. He and his father with friends built a stock car (#45 after their Eighth Street address) which he crashed up regularly at Stafford Motor Speedway for four years. He joined the United States Navy at age 23 and was stationed in Mayport Florida were he meet his wife. He served his country well while touring the world seeing countries like Egypt, Spain, Italy, Greece, France and going through the Suez Canal. He was honorably discharged and began his career with Connecticut Boiler Repair in West Hartford. He also became a life member of the VFW Post 9929 where he had spent so much time with his parents growing up and marching with the Fife and Drum Core with his sisters. He coached both sons through Newington Pee Wee football in the 90's and is still called "Coach" by grown men he coached as children. He was a doting grandfather and a loving father and husband.

A very sad day indeed. My memories of Alan as a youngster and young adult are wonderful. Such a tremendous personality and coupled with his caring for others simply made Alan very unique. Although it has been many years since we have spoken, one never forgets the beautiful people our life path has graced us with their presence. Alan was truly one of those individuals and I am fortunate to have had him in my life during my Eighth Street days. On behalf of my family and my mom Joyce, we extend our deepest sympathy for the loss of this delightful man.
