Albert F. Greger(1918 - 2014)



Albert F. Greger, 95, of Farmington, widower of Jean F. (Freimuth) Greger, died on Sunday (April 20, 2014) at Bristol Hospital. He was born on July 19, 1918 in Bristol and was a Bristol resident for most of his life. He graduated from local schools and attended Hillyer and Tunxis Colleges at various times. A veteran of WWII, he served with the 302nd Heavy Bombardment Group of the 15th Air Force based in Foggia, Italy as a Bombardier for fifty one missions. His awards include the nation's ninth highest, The Air Medal, with four bronze oak leaf clusters indicating additional awards, the European-African medal, with four major battle participation stars, the American Theatre medal and the Connecticut Service medal. Upon return to the United States he was assigned to the Training Command as instructor to American and Chinese cadets. After VJ Day he retired as a First Lt. He was employed at the Superior Electric Co. in the engineering Department and later transferred to purchasing where he continued until retirement in1981 after 37 years. His interests included golf and extensive traveling with his wife which covered all continents but Antarctica, many cruises, and ground trips. He was a member of the First Congregational Church Bristol, for 70 years. He leaves a daughter, Alaine, and her husband Francis Fay of Mass and Maine, a son, Frederick, and his wife Gail, of Arizona, a grandson, Maxwell and his wife, two great granddaughters, two nieces and several cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday (April 28, 2014) at 1 PM at the First Congregational Church, 31 Maple St., Bristol, conducted by the Rev. Kristen Kleiman, pastor. Private interment will follow in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery, Terryville. There are no calling hours.
