HARRISON, Alfred W.
Alfred W. Harrison, U.S.A.F. Ret., 82, passed peacefully into the hands of God on Wednesday, (December 26, 2012) after a short illness. He is currently reunited with his parents, William and Lillian (Castles) Harrison, brothers and sisters, and Brothers in Arms. He leaves behind his wife of 26 years Kathy, her son Charles and Bonnie. Also left with us are many nieces and nephews and childhood friends Dick and Amelia Donahue. Born Sept. 11, 1930, he was the youngest of the Harrisons, growing up in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford. After attending Hartford Public High School, Al enlisted in the U.S.A.F., serving our country through the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring after 25 years as a Master Sergeant. Al worked at Dunham Busch, a local manufacturing company. A long time resident of Newington, Al was a member of the Hannon-Hatch V.F.W. Post 9929. He was also a member of the American Legion of West Hartford. Both Al and Kathy enjoyed watching UConn basketball and football, enjoying the continued growth of the UConn programs. Al also enjoyed making posters for various V.F.W. events and members associated with the V.F.W. Cooking around the holidays was especially dear to him. Truly a patriot has passed, and all that knew Al are richer for the experience.
Al's funeral service will be held Thursday, at 12 noon at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave. Interment will be in West Meadow Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 10 a.m.-12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior's Project, P.O.
