Alice R. (Baker) Ahern

Alice R. (Baker) Ahern, 93, of Barefoot Bay, FL, formerly of Tiffany Rd., East Hartford, widow of Raymond J. Ahern, former Hartford Police Dept. Lt., died Saturday, (January 5, 2002) at the home of Robert and Barbara Lavey in South Windsor. Born in Vernon, April 28, 1908, daughter of the late Edwin and Emma (Anderson) Baker, she resided in East Hartford for over 30 years prior to moving to Barefoot Bay, FL. Alice was formerly employed at Cheney Brothers in Manchester for 17 years and was employed at The Travelers Insurance Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Church of St. Luke and served with the Auxiliary of the Mecco Fire Department, a member of the New England Club and the Irish Club, all of Barefoot Bay, FL. Alice returned to spend summers with her nephew in East Windsor Hill and her nephew in Somers. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Raplee of Pennsylvania; two nephews, Robert W. Lavey of South Windsor and Russell Wirtalla of Somers; and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur D. Baker; and her six sisters, Maud Burch, Carrie Hansen, Florence Lavey, Edna Riley, Mabel Wirtalla and Edith Riccio. Friends may call at the Ahern Funeral Home, 180 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral procession from the Ahern Funeral Home will be Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Cathedral of St. Joseph at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford.
