Alicia Alzugaray

ALZUGARAY, Alicia Alicia (Diaz) Alzugaray, 99, beloved widow of Juan F. Alzugaray, died, Thursday (August 30, 2007), at Mapleview Manor, Rocky Hill. She was born in Bolondron Matanzas, Cuba daughter of the late Angel and Aurora (Alvarez) Diaz and had lived in Hartford since 1961. She was a graduate of the University of Havana with a Doctorate Degree in Education. Alicia was a School Teacher, Principal and Superintendent and worked in all other aspects of Cuban education in Cuba. She later worked for Harford Hospital until her retirement. She is survived by her daughter, Isis A. Alzugaray of Hartford, two sons, Hector G. Alzugaray of Miami Beach, FL, and Huberto Alzugaray, AKA Robert Garrie of New York, a daughter-in-law, Clotilde Nereida Chavez of Rocky Hill, grandchildren, Alice Rodriguez and her husband Manuel of Rocky Hill, Alicia M. Rosario and her husband Victor of Rocky Hill, Juan C. Alzugaray of Miami, FL, Ana Padilla of New York City, Hector G. Alzugaray and his wife Lucy of Rocky Hill, Alejandro Alzugaray and his wife Margarita of Miami, FL., and Isis Zarza and her husband Lazaro of Ft. Meyers, FL, great grandchildren, Melissa and Lauren Rosario, Manuel, Steven and Bryan Rodriguez, Alyssa and Nicholas Alzugaray, Alejandro and Amaya Alzugaray, Kelly, Anabel and Eric Padilla and Jessica Lazara, dear friends, Allan Wiederspiel, David Carrera and her surrogate daughter, Teresa Alvarez, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by two sons, Dr. Carlos L. Alzugaray and Juan F. Alzugaray Jr. The family would like to thank the staff at Maple view manor for all the compassionate care and love extended to Alicia.The funeral will be Saturday, September 1, 9 a.m. from The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave. Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
