AMAT, Ana Margarita (Arambula)
Ana Margarita (Arambula) Amat, 98, of Wethersfield, widow of Doctor Jose E. Amat, died Saturday, (January 28, 2012) at a local convalescent home. She was born in Camaguey, Cuba. She migrated to the U.S. with her family in 1966, seeking political asylum and had lived in Hartford before moving to Wethersfield 25 years ago. She became U.S. citizen in 1973. In her 30 year career as an educator, Mrs. Amat served as Teacher, and Principal of an Elementary Public School in Cuba. She then worked for Aetna Life and Casualty for several years prior to her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Lawrence O'Toole Roman Catholic Church, a former member of Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church where she was member of the Holy Name of Jesus Society. Mrs. Amat is survived by two sons and their wives, Jose F. & Caridad M. Amat of Wethersfield, and Emiliano A. & Luz Consuelo Amat of Hartford; five grandchildren, Joseph, Frank, Marina, Maria and Tanya; and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and Andrew; three nieces and one nephew; and a large number of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters, Maria Clemencia and Ruth; one brother, David; and a niece.
The funeral will be Thursday, February 2, 2012, 9:45 a.m. from the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m. in St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave, Hartford. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
