BIHLMEYER, Anne Dixon (Roberts)
Anne Dixon (Roberts) Bihlmeyer, 97, died in Hartford on Tuesday, (July 16, 2013). Anne, the daughter of the late Eva Mae and Allen C. Roberts, was born in Sioux City, IA on April 1, 1916 and grew up in Elk Point, SD. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1934. She attended the University of Minnesota graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and majors in mathematics and Latin. Anne was the recipient of numerous scholastic honors including: Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Lambda Theta, Alpha Psi and Sigma Epsilon Sigma. Following graduation, she taught English classes in North Dakota and then in Montana. In 1943 she enlisted in the U.S. Women's Army Corps. Anne served as a mathematician in the Ballistic Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. During her service she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After returning to civilian life, she attended the University of Denver Library School, graduating, summa cum laude, with a degree in Library Science. At that time, due to her mother's illness, she assumed the management of the family jewelry store in Anaconda, MT. In 1962, Anne returned to her career as Librarian at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, retiring in 1981 ending her career as Assistant Professor. She continued to care for her father until his death. Anne relocated to Appleton, WI to be near her aunt Jeanette. On Oct. 29, 1994 Anne married Earl W. Bihlmeyer, Lt. Col. U.S. Army (Ret'd), her high school sweetheart. They eventually returned to Connecticut to be near family. She was pre-deceased by her husband Earl in 2008. Survivors include two cousins, nine step children, 21 step grandchildren, 21 step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild, at this time.
