Armindo Amaral

AMARAL, Armindo Armindo Amaral went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, (August 15, 2009). He was born in Corgas, Portugal in 1915, resided in Hartford County and retired to Florida in his 52nd year. Armindo was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Elsie (McMullen) Amaral and his daughter, Janice. He leaves behind a wife, Belmira, and her family in Lakeland, FL, which was his residence for the past three years; his son, Allan and daughter-in-law, Diana, of Glastonbury; his four grandchildren, Allan Jr. and his wife Karen, Michael and his wife Laura, Lara and Julie Amaral; his five great grandchildren, Ryan and Jenna of Massachusetts and Luke, Drew and Jack of Virginia. Armindo never forgot his Portuguese roots and made numerous trips back to his native country. A self- starter, he began his career in welding at the Whitlock Manufacturing Company. Later, he opened his own manufacturing business in East Hartford, The Superior Tank and Welding Company. During his retirement he was a member of the Ft. Lauderdale Country Club where he enjoyed his favorite game of golf. Whatever he tackled, he gave it one hundred percent and things usually turned out well especially his Portuguese Soup which became an annual tradition that he made for his family. He had a great sense of humor, which was evident even to the nursing home staff at Rocky Hill Nursing Home where he spent the last week of his life. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at 11 a.m. in the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tpke., Glastonbury, followed with burial in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. His family will be receiving callers on Tuesday, August 18, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
