DUNAGIN, Barto L. "Bart"
Barto L. "Bart" Dunagin, 83, of Enfield, husband of Marlene (Street) Dunagin, entered into eternal peace Sunday, (March 17, 2013), at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his family. The son of the late John and Hattie (Thomas) Dunagin, Bart was born in Newton, MS, had resided in the Enfield community for many years, and was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He served his country honorably during the Korean War in the United States Air Force. He was formerly employed as a Correction Officer for 20 years for the CT Dept. of Correction, retiring in 1986. A longtime member of the Enfield Fire Dept. District 1, Bart retired as Captain. He was also the former Fire Chief for the South Hempstead Volunteer Fire Dept. in New York. Bart's community involvement included being a life member of AMVETS Post #18, and a member of the Tanguay-Magill Post #80 American Legion. He was also a member of the Enfield Knights of Columbus Washington Irving Council #50. Besides his wife Marlene, Bart is survived by two sons, John Dunagin and his wife, Paula, of Pittsfield, NH, and James Dunagin and his wife, Valerie, of Neersville, VA; seven daughters, Margaret Fitch and her husband, Michael, of Reynoldsburg, OH, Catherine Dugay and her husband, James, of Inwood, WV, Frances Desrosiers and her husband, Richard, of Enfield, Mary Dunagin and her partner, Carol Sheehan, of The Villages, FL, Theresa Bailey and her husband, Scott, of Enfield, Loretta Dunagin and her partner, James Nelson, of Plainville, and Jacqueline Vincent and her husband, Jeffery, of Enfield; three step children, Cynthia Carrier of Willington, Lois Cartier and her husband, Claude, of Ellington, and Kevin Vincent and his wife, Martha, of Bolton; 32 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one brother, George Dunagin and his wife, Emma, of MS; a sister, Janie Lorene Knight of Franklinton, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Bart was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Reilly) Dunagin (2002), two brothers, James and Willie Jo Dunagin; two sisters, Julia England; a step daughter, Joanie Thuotte; and two grandchildren, Ashly and Alicia Dunagin. He also leaves behind a great friend and neighbor, Harry Weatherwax.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bart will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield (Please meet at church). Committal, with military honors, will follow at St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery. Bart's family will receive relatives and friends Friday, March 22, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield.
