ABREU, Christopher Gabriel

Christopher Gabriel Abreu, 26, of Wethersfield, died tragically in a fire on Monday, (April 15, 2013). Chris was born on May 8, 1986 in Hartford. He resided in Wethersfield and graduated from Newington High School in 2005. Chris worked side by side with his father in his contracting business. Chris was the beloved son of Gabriel Abreu and loving brother of Jessica Abreu. He was predeceased by his adoring mother Maria this past December. In addition to his father and his sister, Chris is survived by his girlfriend, Sandy Smith who brought joy to his life these past few months; his grandfather Martinho Romao of Portugal; his aunts and their husbands, Olivia and Manual Caires, Lina and Ramiro de Sousa, Fatima and Jose Silva and Otilia and Jose Rocha; his uncles and their wives, Alberto and Elisabete Romao and Jose and Piedade Romao. Chris also leaves his Godparents Tico and Lily Rocha and was part of a tight knit group of cousins including Rick, Jenn, Jeff, Phil, Jason, Vanessa, Brian and Eric. He also leaves his godson Ayden who he adored greatly. In addition, Chris is survived by many other aunts, uncles and cousins that he came to know and love on his visits to Madeira Island, his parents' native country. Chris was an avid Patriots fan, never missing a game. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends and the kindness he showed to all. Chris' family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Wethersfield, Cromwell and Rocky Hill fire departments and emergency personnel for all of their efforts this past Monday morning and for all that they do for us everyday. His family would also like to thank the Duksa family and the staff at Newington Memorial Funeral Home for all they have done to help them through this extremely difficult time.
Chris' funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St. in Hartford. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Relatives and Friends are invited to call on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
