BERMAN, David L.
David L. Berman, son of the late Frances and William Berman of West Hartford, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Born in Hartford on January 11, 1932, David was raised in West Hartford and graduated from The Loomis School and Yale University (where he was a champion boxer). He served as an army social worker during the Korean War. David worked at many occupations during his 81 years including insurance salesman, stock broker, writer, poet, book store owner, researcher, surveyor, and landscaper. He was a voracious reader and made almost daily trips to the West Hartford Public Library during the last 20 years of his life. He was also an outdoorsman, a woodworker, and an accomplished gardener. David is survived by his sister, Nancie; his loving children, H. Daniel Berman of Florida, and Tamara L. Berman-Ishee, of North Carolina; and his two grandchildren, Pascale Boucicaut and Isaac Ishee. He is also survived by his "oldest friend since 4th grade at the Morley School," Donald Cantor of West Hartford, and dear friends Maya and Jonathan Schwartz of Bloomfield. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hughes Rehab in West Hartford for caring for David during the last weeks of his life.
A private family ceremony is planned. Donations may be made in David's name to the West Hartford Public Library.
