BLOOM, Edward B.

Edward B. Bloom, 83, of Newington, beloved husband for 60 years of Annette (Dubay) Bloom, died Wednesday, (November 7, 20120). He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Frederick and Catherine (Gaffney) Bloom and resided in Newington for the past 50 years. Before his retirement he had been employed by the City of Hartford Public Works for over 20 years and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Edward was a past Post Commander serving 1976-77 of the VFW Hannon-Hatch post 9929 in West Hartford and a 50 year communicant of St. Mary's Church in Newington. He was an avid reader especially mystery stories, a avid UConn girls basketball fan and enjoyed the company of his grandchildren. Besides his wife, Annette, Ed is survived by his sons Ralph O. Bloom and his wife Maureen, of Newington, Edward R. Bloom and his wife Kathy, of Windsor Locks, his daughter Nancy B. Galli and her husband Stephen, of Newington; his grandchildren Jeremy Bloom and his wife Janet, Bret Bloom and his wife Priscilla, and Lisa, Amy and Kyle Bloom; his two great-grandchildren Madison and Makayla; his daughter-in-law Dawn Bloom, of East Hampton; his sister-in-law Marilyn Bloom, of South Windsor; dear family friend Andrea Gallant, of New Britain; a nephew; four nieces and a great-niece. Ed was predeceased by three sons Thomas, Timothy, and Kevin Bloom.
Ed's funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Fisette-Batzner Funeral Home at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church in Newington. Interment with military honors will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call TODAY from 4-7 p.m. at Fisette-Batzner.
