ADAMS, Ellis W. Ellis W. Adams, of Moodus, husband of Helen (McCollum) Adams, passed away (July 30, 2009) at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. He was born August 20, 1932 in Little Falls, NJ, the son of the late Safford and Addie (Wack) Adams. Ellis attended University of CT, Storrs; along with Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He worked at Sealtest, Burlington, VT; HP Hood and Sons, St. Albans, VT; Tompkins County Health Dept., Ithaca, NY, 1957-1961; and as a sanitarian for Dutchess County Health Dept., Poughkeepsie, NY, 1961-1987. He retired in 1987 and worked part time for Killingworth Health Dept., Killingworth, 1988-1996. He retired again in 1996. He served on the Board of Directors for Community Health Plan for 20 years and organized the HMO in Poughkeepsie, NY. He held various offices including President of Dutchess Local Civil Service Employees Association and served on the Statewide Board of Directors as well as various Board committees. Ellis' hobbies were getting married (three times), sailing, fishing, music, cars, weaving, crafts, collecting art, gardening, travel, and loving his cats. He was known for his pastries and won the Best of New England award for his apple pie. He and his wife, Helen, owned and operated Captain Dibbell House Bed-and-Breakfast, in Clinton, 1986-2000. They enjoyed spending winters at their second home on Hilton Head Island, SC. Ellis will be remembered for his humor, kindness, cigars, and his unique outlook on life. In addition to his wife; he is survived by his brother, Safford Adams of Essex Junction, VT; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services and burial will be held privately by the family. There are no calling hours.
