Ervin Booker, Jr., III, 72, of Windsor, beloved husband for 47 years of Dorothy (Crawley) Booker, passed away peacefully on Monday, (August 5, 2013) surrounded by his family at UConn Medical Center in Farmington. Born in Lanett, AL on May 16, 1941, son of the late Ervin Booker, Jr., II and Lavonia (Williams) Booker, he was raised in Lanett, AL and had lived in Hartford for over 20 years before moving to Windsor in 1985. After graduating from high school, Ervin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam era until his honorable discharge in 1965. Ervin worked for Northeast Utilities for 34 years and retired in 2002 as a Manager. A longtime resident of Hartford and Windsor, he was active in many organizations and had served on the Board of Directors of the Knox Park Foundation and C.R.T. in Hartford, as a Senior Board member for the Boy Scouts of America, and as a longtime member and past president of the Hartford Host Lions Club. He was also active in local and State of Connecticut politics for many years and had served on the Planning and Zoning Commission in Windsor, the Town Committee in Hartford, and was presently serving on the Town Committee in Windsor. He was elected as a State Representative of the 7th Assembly District in 1982. Proud of his service in the U.S. Army, Ervin was also a member of the American Legion, Gray-Dickinson Post #59 in Windsor. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening around his home, and spending time with his family. After his retirement, he volunteered for many years as a driver at the Windsor Senior Center. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Curtis Booker and his wife Jackie; two daughters, Bridgette Hudson and her husband Jason of North Richland Hills, TX and Sebrena Booker-Murray of Dallas, TX; a brother, Joshua Booker of Lanett, AL; a sister, Clora Davis and her husband Curtis of Lanett, AL; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, a special friend Rebecca Joyce, and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Dexter Booker; a brother, Jacob Booker; and three sisters, Ernestine Booker, Maggie Booker, and Shirley Lancaster.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, August 8, 4-5 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m., in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will be in Hillcrest Gardens in Lanett, AL.
