Ethel June Wahl Alia, 77, beloved wife of 53 years, of Albert F. Alia, of Chapel Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Monday, (February 11, 2002) at her residence. Born in Yalesville, June 10, 1924, a daughter of the late George and Emma McGara Wahl, and had been a lifelong resident. She married her loving husband, Albert on January 15, 1949, she had a strong desire to remain close to her family, so they purchased their first and only home and settled down in Yalesville. Her children, Susan and Jack always found this home to be a happy and loving home. This too was true for the many nieces and nephews and so many other children who had the wonderful opportunity to share in living there. Ethel has remained a member of the Yalesville Untied Methodist Church since her childhood. Throughout her membership at the church she always found time to participate in many of their activities, as well as teaching Sunday School for a number of years. Her passion or calling in life was to care for people. She spent many years providing child care for numerous family and friends, as well as for many of their children, too. She also, without question, participated in caring for her mother and each of her sisters. She was their "rock" and their confidant. How very lucky they all were! As her family, we have always been very proud to say she was our loving wife and mother. Although, during these past few years, her illness hid many of her very special qualities, she has continued to remain her happy and loving self. We love you and will always miss you! Besides her beloved husband Albert, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Alia, of Norfolk, VA; her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Diane of Tolland, MA; her two granddaughters, Arrilynne Alia of Wallingford and Shawnna Hernandez of Manchester; her brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Carmel and Carman Giammatteo, of Southington, Rocky and Irene Alia, of Meriden, Joseph Alia, of Meriden, Anthony and Judy Alia of Tocoma, WA, Anna and John Sobeleski, of Wallingford, Joan Gajewski, of Meriden, and Robert and Sharon Alia of Southington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four sisters; and three brothers, Irving Wahl, Russell Wahl, Elmer Wahl, Evelyn Wuchert, Dorothy Lichtenberger, Mildred Carpenter, and Virginia Addy, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James Alia and Katherine Alia. Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford, Thursday, 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, 10 a.m. in the Yalesville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Eric Fjeldal, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
