Eugene E. Maynard(1921 - 2014)

Eugene E. Maynard, 92, of Bristol, beloved husband of Rose (Massaro) Maynard, died on Saturday night (February 1, 2014) at Bristol Hospital. Gene was born on September 5, 1921 in Bristol and was one of three children of the late Edward and Lillian (Johnson) Maynard. Raised in Bristol, Eugene enlisted in the United States Navy at the start of World War II serving in the Navy air patrols; patrolling the South Atlantic Ocean in the Anti-Submarine Unit. He was discharged after serving four years and then went on to attend New York Technical Institute. He worked at General Electric in Plainville retiring after 25 years. Gene also worked at G. Fox & Co., now Macy's, for 15 years in furniture sales. He was a member of the Bristol Elk's Lodge #1010 for many years as well as the American Legion and St. Anthony Church, Bristol, where he was an usher. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Gene is survived by a daughter and son in law: Claudia and Stanley Skarb of Berlin; a brother, Charles Maynard of Avon; a sister, Rose Toscano of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (February 6, 2014) at 11 AM at St. Anthony Church, 111 School Street, Bristol. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Thursday between 9:30 and 10:30 AM.
