Francis E. Mercadante, 89, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Crest Street, Wethersfield, beloved and devoted husband of Roberta (Ragonese) Mercadante for 58 years, passed away peacefully, Saturday, (May 18, 2013) at St. Francis Hospital. He was born Dec. 3, 1923 in Hartford and was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Maroney) Mercadante. Francis was a proud World War II, US Navy veteran. He owned and operated the former Oxbow Café in Hartford for over 30 years. He lived in Wethersfield since 1959 and was a member of the B.P.O.E. Hartford Lodge # 19 for over 50 years and a lifelong member of the VFW. Besides his wife he is survived by his son, Michael T. Mercadante and wife Margie Gembicki Mercadante of Newton, MA and his daughter, Francine Buck and husband, David of Mansfield, MA, twin grandsons, Daniel and Jordan, a sister, Marguerite Spendolini of Manchester, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Francis and Dorothy Ragonese of Rocky Hill, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. The burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral chapel.
