Gilbert Roland Anderson, 81, of the Weatogue section of Simsbury, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Seabury Retirement Community in Bloomfield. He was born May 6, 1932 in Hartford, son of the late Carl and Malvina (Carlson) Anderson and had moved to Simsbury 46 years ago. Gilbert was a veteran of the Korean War
having served in the U.S. Air Force
. He received his Associates Degree from Nichols College in 1952 and was a graduate of UCONN, Class of 1958, having received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Mr. Anderson was a Senior Manager of Information Systems at Hamilton Standard/UTC for many years prior to his retirement. Gilbert enjoyed skiing and was a member of the National Ski Patrol Association, the Professional Ski Instructors of America, and was the founder of the Connecticut Industrial Ski Council. Active all of his life, he loved football, hiking, sailing, rollerblading and running and participated in many American Cancer Society Relay for Life events. Gil was a member of the Connecticut Rails to Trails Commission and was a founder of the Gilamonstours. He loved to sail, family celebrations, and travel, including visits to Sweden, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany as well as throughout the US and Western Canada. He is survived by his son, Robert Anderson and his wife Heather of Stowe, VT; his daughter, Cindy Harrigan and her partner Stephen Minicucci of Bolton; his three siblings, Vivian Chesney of Newington, Allen Anderson and his wife Jan of Liverpool, NY and Mary Ann Simkins and her husband Gerald of Hawaii; his grandchildren, Katie and Leanne Harrigan of Boston, MA and Sierra and Camden Anderson of Stowe, VT and a large extended family both in the US and in Sweden. Friends and family are invited to call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Tuesday, May 6th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service celebrating his life will be Wednesday, May 7th, 11:00 AM at the Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue in Hartford.
