GILBERT, Goodrow A., Jr.
Goodrow "Gil", "Sonny" A. Gilbert Jr. passed away on Saturday (October 12, 2013), after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He fought a good fight, and passed surrounded by his loving family. He was married for 55 years to the love of his life, and childhood sweetheart, Theodora "Teddy" Ann (Leach) Gilbert. He was born on June 14, 1938 in Laconia, NH to the late Goodrow A. and Beatrice (Dorval) Gilbert. He was raised in Glastonbury, graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1956, and attended the Ward School of Electronics. He served in the Air Force with the 170th Tactical Fighter Squadron from 1959 to 1962 and had resided in Manchester for over 50 years. He retired after 35 years of service, beginning with UNIVAC (back when you walked inside computers to fix them), and ending with Unisys. Gil enjoyed a good time, loved life, and was a lot of fun to be around. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Manchester Country Club. He took great pleasure golfing with his buddies and was able to continue golfing up until two months ago. Gil enjoyed traveling to the islands and spending winters in Florida where he had many friends. He loved holidays with his family, where Christmas Eve was especially legendary, and times at the family cottage in Niantic. Gil was a member of the Elks, BPOE 1893, in Manchester. He loved to make his own wine turning out some outstanding vintages over the years. Gil had also enjoyed bowling and just missed a perfect game getting 11 strikes in a row. He loved fishing and his New England Patriots. Gil was a parishioner of St. Bridget Church in Manchester. He was a wonderful, and loved, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Besides his loving wife he is survived by his son Dwayne Gilbert and wife Laura of Willington, and their two children Jacob and Hayley; his daughter Dana Binette and her husband Dan of Willington, and their children Adam, Samantha, and Lyndsay; and son Darrin Gilbert and his wife Debbie of Bolton, and their son Curtis. Gil leaves three great-grandchildren, Ameyla Binette-Noury, Boston and Borden Gallup, and two more on the way. He is also survived by two sisters, Suzanne Doucette of Arizona and Denise Mathiason of Connecticut and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 16, at 9:45 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main Street in Manchester. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contribution may be made to the
