Irene G. HAUSER

HAUSER, Irene G.

Irene G. Hauser. In the early evening of November 16, 2012 a bright and shining star was lost. It is with great sadness, love and wonderful memories that we announce the passing of our mother, Irene Gustafson Hauser. Her four year battle with cancer was fought with strength, determination and most of all grace. She was truly an inspiration to all those who encountered her. She was born on Sept. 17, 1935 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of the late Nils and Stina (Johanson) Gustafson, who had emigrated from Sweden prior to her birth. Irene will be fondly remembered for her kindred spirit, compassion and kindness towards others. Her lifelong love of music was shared through her volunteer service at Cherry Brook Nursing Home in Canton where she enjoyed singing to the residents, while her cousin and friend, Marie Rivers, played the piano alongside her. Even after her illness began to take its toll and she was no longer able to sing, Irene continued to spend time at Cherry Brook. A devoted mother, grandmother and sister, Irene loved spending time with her family and was so very proud of her three sons and their children. Her most recent years were spent at the Robinson Assisted Living Facility at McLean Home in Simsbury, CT. Always open and warmhearted, staff and residents alike were drawn to her. Her unassuming way made it difficult for her to understand that her optimistic attitude towards life and naturally welcoming and radiant personality made her a wonderful asset to the community. She will be dearly missed by all her friends, old and new, and her smiling face and genuine appreciation of life will never be forgotten. A heartfelt thanks is sent to all those at the "Robinson" who cared for her. She was always quick to mention how truly blessed she was to have such loving and compassionate individuals care for her on a daily basis. Irene is survived by her children, Dale Hauser and his wife, Carolyn Eiseman; Doug Hauser and his wife, Patty; and Scott Hauser. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Sydney and Devin Hauser; Katie, Melissa and Christopher Hauser; Denise and Helena Hauser; Jeremy and Nicholas Westerling and her great-grandchild, Lewis. She also leaves behind her beloved sister and best friend, Margaret "Peggy" Breese of Montrose, CO. Many special and wonderful times were shared between them. In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Russ Breese, her nephews, Todd and Scott Breese, and her niece Bonnie Breese-Mohney.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at McLean Home, 75 Great Pond Rd., Simsbury with the Rev. James Wheeler officiating.
