Irene V. Zarko, 96, a resident of Rocky Hill, died Sunday, (November 18, 2012) at Apple Rehab in Rocky Hill. She was born October 30, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois and was the daughter of the late Onufry and Clementine (Dutkowski) Ziarko. Irene graduated from college in Mississippi in the late 1930s. During WWII she worked in the war effort in Washington DC. She retired many years ago from the Federal Government and was a Loan Specialist. Irene was involved in the construction of public housing in Chicago. Irene relocated to Rocky Hill in 1988. She was a member of the Rocky Hill Seniors, NARFE and was a volunteer at the Rocky Hill Historical Society. Irene was a longtime faithful parishioner of St. James Church, Rocky Hill. She is survived by a niece and three nephews: Carol Manning, Matt Zarko, John Wisnioski, and Charles Wisnioski. Irene was well known for walking her nephew's dog Spanky, the both of which would howl with the accompaniment of the Congregational church bells. Irene was a generous person and never expressed a negative statement.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday (November 23) at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. The burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
