KELLY, James J. "Red"
Mr. James J. "Red" Kelly, 73, of Waterbury, died suddenly on Friday, (December 28, 2012). "Red" was born on May 3, 1939 in Waterbury, son of the late James C. and Mary (Kvaracieus) Kelly. A lifetime resident of Waterbury, he was a graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1958. Following high school graduation, Red served honorably in the United States Army. James attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and received his Associates Degree from Post University in Waterbury. With a love for baseball, James was instrumental in the conception of the Twi-Met Baseball League and the Waterbury Timers. James is survived by his son, James Kelly Jr., and his partner, Mark Baird, of Derwood, MD; his daughter, Amanda Robles and her husband Antonio, of Bristol; a brother, John Kelly and his wife Mary, of Cheshire; three sisters, Marianne Mahon of Winsted, Dorothy Madden and her husband, William of Waterbury, and Patricia O'Neill and her significant other, John Philibert of Waterbury; two grandchildren, Michael Gonzalez and Elijah Robles; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 4 at The Church of the Epiphany, 1750 Huckins Rd., Cheshire, at 10 a.m. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 3 from 5-8 p.m. at the Bergin Funeral Home, 290 E. Main St., Waterbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
